videantis - Hidden Champion from Hanover

The deep-tech forge delivers key technology for the self-driving cars of tomorrow

When ADTechnology, the world's leading provider of chip design from South Korea, recently announced its collaboration with the Hanover-based company videantis, investors were thrilled and ADTechnology's share price skyrocketed. This is because the Hanover-based company offers a real key technology for autonomous driving with its unique processor platform. The Hannover Beteiligungsfonds from hannoverimpuls has been supporting the "hidden champion" from Hanover since its start-up days and continues to support its exemplary innovative strength.

Hanover November 15, 2022: Regardless of whether you are an established vehicle manufacturer or a start-up, autonomous driving requires a large number of vehicle sensors - cameras, distance and speed sensors, radar and ultrasound, which together deliver immense amounts of data. Conventional computer architectures reach their limits when processing this flood of data. videantis, Hanover's deep-tech company for high-end processor technology, has developed an innovative approach that is causing a stir worldwide and has also convinced investors in ADTechnology, which is listed on the Korean KOSDAQ: the share price shot up by a whopping 26% shortly after the announcement of the collaboration!

What videantis has developed is nothing less than a revolution in the processor technology that is so important for modern cars: unlike other providers, the Hanover-based company does away with separate cores for AI, image processing, signal processing, graphics or video. All tasks are processed on the cores of the in-house processor architecture - this reduces the complexity of the entire chip and allows the available chip area to be utilized by a factor of at least ten. At the same time, this technological approach allows a high degree of scalability, which in practical terms means that videantis can replace more than ten different conventional chip architectures; the development and verification efforts for new functions in the vehicle that were previously required again and again are significantly reduced - and once developed, functions can be rolled out cost-effectively across all vehicle models. As a result, videantis offers a key technology for affordable autonomous driving. What's more, the market for processors is growing steadily: from 3.9 billion US dollars in 2021 to more than 10 billion in 2027, according to a study by Yole Intelligence.

"videantis is working with leading car manufacturers and major suppliers to develop the most suitable platform for the chip architectures of next-generation vehicles," explains Reinhard Hinrichs, Managing Director of Hannover Beteiligungsfonds GmbH, which has supported the company since its start-up days. "The ability to quickly and easily adapt the AI chips to a wide range of different applications is a huge technological advantage that will be reflected in sales figures on the market."

videantis, incidentally a spin-off from Leibniz Universität Hannover, is considered a hidden champion in the industry, as on the one hand its name rarely appears as a provider of its development due to its previous business model, but on the other hand almost 15 million vehicles from many well-known and globally established car manufacturers now use the videantis platform. In 2011, the Hanover-based company received the "Fast 50 Award" from Deloitte for the first time - the technology ranking recognizes the 50 fastest-growing German technology companies with the highest percentage sales growth over five years. "With its product family, videantis is moving into the top class of global chip development, the likes of which can otherwise only be found in Silicon Valley," says Wolfgang Lubert, fund manager at enjoyVenture, enthusiastically analyzing the company's outstanding performance.

The close cooperation with the Hanover-based global corporation Continental, which was announced last year, had already attracted a great deal of attention. videantis and Continental have jointly developed intelligent next-generation reversing cameras. Wolfgang Lubert from EnjoyVenture Management GmbH accompanies numerous Hanover-based companies on their steps into the market on behalf of Hannover Beteiligungsfonds, but the videantis story is also a very special success for him with immense appeal for the Hanover location: "We are proud to be able to continue to support this lighthouse project as an investor and are delighted that videantis has succeeded in inspiring industry giants such as ADTechnology, Samsung and Arm to work together. Together, we will make a valuable contribution to strengthening Germany as a business and technology location."
