My sister helped me a lot when I was deciding whether I should drop out of university. She saw the flyers for "Umsteigen statt Aussteigen" at university and so I made an appointment as I wanted to make use of all the help available.
The project was exactly tailored to my circumstances - already a long time into my studies, a bit older.
I was given a lot of hope that I would find an apprenticeship and that I wouldn't have to worry about dropping out of university. The project gave me the self-confidence I needed to take the plunge and be confident in applications and job interviews!
The conversation was long and detailed and I was shown all the options. I was also asked regularly afterwards how things were going. I felt well looked after and supported.
Dropping out is an opportunity
I am very happy with my decision to drop out of university. Although I had already studied for 5 years, I couldn't see myself finishing my studies. Now I'm going to do an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in a medium-sized company, where I was able to start as a temporary employee and get a taste of the job.
Take advantage of the consultation, even if you're not sure! It costs nothing and you will be supported in all decisions. Even if you decide to continue your studies after all, it still helps to have an objective advisor at your side who can show you exactly what your options are and won't be subjectively influenced, as would be the case with friends or family. I can highly recommend the "Umsteigen statt Aussteigen" project to anyone who has doubts about their studies!"
