The trade fair has expanded its traditional format to include the "Housing Matters!" congress on the day before the actual trade fair. As a result, MIPIM is once again opening up from an investor and transaction trade fair to other social issues that also affect the real estate industry. Yesterday, Monday (March 11), Lord Mayor Belit Onay presented Hanover's approach at the international panel "Best of Housing: a worldwide tour of best innovation", which preceded the trade fair, and discussed the challenges in housing construction and the different approaches. There, he met with other mayors and Federal Minister of Building Klara Geywitz for a discussion.

The focus of today's first day of the trade fair was a panel discussion on "Cities of tomorrow: Best practice of three German cities Hannover, Leipzig and Mannheim", in which Regional President Krach, moderated by Lord Mayor Onay, spoke with representatives of the stand partner cities about the current challenges and solutions in the three participating cities and regions. The equally diverse investments in the fields of science and research attracted particular attention from the large audience.

"The Hannover Region not only stands for an outstanding educational landscape with over 50,000 students and a broad spectrum of teachers and researchers at renowned universities such as Leibniz University and the Hannover Medical School. It also shapes important leading industries such as the automotive sector, energy and process engineering and logistics, which continuously produce innovative solutions through close cooperation with universities and research institutions. This strong network of attractive locations for knowledge-based companies makes Hannover a dynamic center for pioneering technologies. I look forward to exchanging ideas with other countries and making this even better known."
Steffen Krach, Regional President
"The partnership between local authorities and the real estate industry must be renegotiated. What was previously taken for granted no longer applies. I went to Cannes to talk to a wide range of players and explore the scope and perspectives that could also help us in Hanover.

Although the initial situation in the cities is very different, common ground crystallized time and again: the importance of open, democratic processes to develop common goals and steps for change and working in partnership with companies.

"
Belit Onay, Lord Mayor
"Hanover combines the strengths of a flourishing economy with an excellent public transport system. With 36,000 trainees, the region offers a rich pool of skilled workers from which companies of all sizes can draw. This high availability of talent is complemented by a pioneering public transport system that impresses with its innovation and efficiency. We recently established an on-demand public transport system for rural areas that is unique in Europe. I look forward to exchanging ideas with other countries about this and looking beyond our own horizons."
Ulf-Birger Franz, Head of Economic Affairs

In addition to the transformation of Hanover's city centre and housing construction, the representatives of the state capital will focus on the revitalization of the Chatham Barracks and the future project DeunerViertel ("Deurag-Nerag") during the talks at the trade fair. "There is no other place where you can share so many experiences of major European cities with inner-city mobility, the reclamation of public space and the revitalization of inner cities in such a short space of time. Madrid, Poznan and Lyon are on my agenda - our path in Hanover is also highly interesting for others," says city planning officer Thomas Vielhaber.

"With the DeunerViertel, we are tackling a project that is unparalleled in its complexity.Nevertheless, there are cities and companies that are very experienced in some areas and whose advice will show us further paths and opportunities. We also want to interest project partners in the Chatham Barracks in order to speed up the development. There are more and more companies that have made the actually unsolvable question of reusing difficult areas their business model. Cannes offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas in a compact form."
Anja Ritschel, Hanover's Head of Economic and Environmental Affairs

"After our debut at the joint stand last year, we are delighted to be appearing again in 2024 together with the state capital of Hanover, the Hanover region and KSB INTAX. Deutsche Hypo - NORD/LB Real Estate Finance has been taking part in MIPIM for many years. Especially in view of the challenging times in the real estate industry, personal encounters are of great importance. We meet many players from the real estate industry here - our most important contacts from Europe will also be represented. The international focus of MIPIM is important for us, as Deutsche Hypo - NORD/LB Real Estate Finance is not only active in Germany, but throughout Europe. Our latest study on the United Kingdom will also be published just in time for MIPIM: UK. Real estate market with signs of optimism."
Frank Schrader, Head of Deutsche Hypo - NORD/LB Real Estate Finance
"Iam also a little bit proud of how powerfully the city and region are presenting themselves with their top representatives in Cannes. This clearly sets our location apart from some of our competitors, and I am convinced that this commitment will pay off for Hannover in the medium term at the latest. I am very pleased that we can contribute to this appearance together with Deutsche Hypo."
