Training manager: Language support for immigrant trainees

25.11.2022 - Existing program against youth unemployment at the BBS campus expanded.

Gluing, liability for material defects and folding rulers: without appropriate German language skills, it is often difficult for immigrant trainees to master everyday training and keep up with vocational school lessons. As a result, many young immigrants drop out of their apprenticeship or fail their exams. Companies are noticing this and are finding it increasingly difficult to fill their training places.

Contact for young immigrants and training companies

With the new training manager project, the Hannover Region's employment promotion agency wants to create a local position on the BBS campus to inform young immigrants, training companies and specialists at vocational schools about vocational language courses and advise them on funding opportunities.

The Hannover Region's Committee for Economic Affairs and Employment has agreed to provide the Oskar Kämmer School with a total of around 112,000 euros for the project, which will initially run until the end of September 2024. The final decision will be made by the regional assembly.

"With the training manager project, we are starting where most apprenticeships for young people with refugee experience or people with a migration background currently fail - with the language.

With individual advisory services, we want to specifically support trainees with a migrant background in their language development so that they can successfully complete their apprenticeship and integrate into the labor market in the long term.

"
says Ulf-Birger Franz, Head of Education and Economic Affairs

At the same time, the project also aims to bring together relevant stakeholders such as specialists from vocational schools and providers of job-related language courses, says Franz.

"We already have a good range of vocational language courses in the Hannover Region," explains the Head of Education and Economic Affairs: "With the training manager, we want to ensure that we reach even more immigrant trainees and support our cooperation partners in the further development of the funding opportunity."

In addition to fixed consultation hours for immigrant trainees, regular information events are also planned at the start of the vocational school year. With regular networking events, the project aims to promote exchange between training companies, vocational schools and providers of job-related language courses and be a low-threshold first point of contact for questions.
