Founding story May: Grove cut

Grove cut - A cutting station for professionals

HALLE 96 offers creative professionals from the cultural and creative industries the best conditions to develop, network and take off. Felix Hain, who came to the hall via hannoverimpuls, also benefits from this environment. The editor and cameraman has not only set up a professional editing suite for himself here - he also rents out this workspace to other experts.

Felix, how did you come up with the idea of grove pruning?

It's actually quite simple. After training as a "media designer for image and sound" in Rostock, I got a permanent position there after a year's internship in Hamburg and was able to gain three years of professional experience. Then I had the idea of studying engineering with a specialization in automation technology, as I was interested in motion control camera robots. To finance my studies, I worked as a freelance cameraman and editor and slowly built up my own network. I came to Hanover for love. It was here that I came up with the idea of continuing with what I was passionate about. So I gave my studies a miss, looked around for advice centers for start-ups and very quickly ended up at hannoverimpuls. I won the Plug & Work competition with my idea of a rental editing suite and was able to put the idea into practice for six months rent-free in HALLE 96.

What is special about the room?

It contains everything that professional filmmakers, authors and editors need. Equipped with a Windows workstation that is suitable for 4k editing, I have the most common editing programs and software, AVID Media Composer and the entire Creative Cloud with selected effect suites for audio and video. Anything can be edited here. The room also has its own sound booth for voice recordings. I like to make music in here at the moment. There's also a sofa and an electric piano for creative breaks.

How do you benefit from the environment at HALLE 96?

Here you quickly get to know people who have a similar mindset and enjoy what they do. I'm in contact with the krehtiv network in Hanover and support young creatives, trainees and students by making my editing suite available to them at special rates.

What are your tips for other founders?

Sometimes you have to take a detour to reach your goal. Try it out. Then you will quickly realize what your heart really beats for. For me, it was the detour via my studies. The "job on the side" has now turned into a great self-employed business. Use networks and don't be afraid to approach people who might be able to help you.

Felix Hain on the cooperation with hannoverimpuls:

hannoverimpuls gave me the opportunity to gain a foothold in Hanover. I was provided with all the important information and was also given a base in Halle 96. That motivated me to keep at it. New opportunities have opened up here, which I continue to take advantage of.

In Halle 96 - the start-up center for creative people in Hanover - Felix Hain finds the perfect conditions for his business model. We find his approach so interesting that we have subsidized his premises through our start-up competition Plug & Work.
