Supply chains have become increasingly complex and storage costs have been saved through just-in-time delivery. First the coronavirus disrupted global supply chains, now the war in Ukraine is ruthlessly exposing our heavy dependence on the global commodity markets. The great openness of the German economy - which is its great strength in good times - is currently proving to be a vulnerability. Does this herald a deglobalization?

"Deglobalization has been taking place since the global financial crisis in 2008, and the recent crises have only further accelerated this process," saysProf.Dr. Dalia Marin, Austrian economist and professor at theTUMSchool of Management at the Technical University of Munich. "If we leave the cooperative path, there is a threat of an immense loss of growth and prosperity," countersTorstenWindels, economist and long-standing chief economist at Norddeutsche Landesbank (NORD/LB).
Together with company representatives from BlockTransformatoren-Elektronik GmbH andJägerGummi und Kunststoff GmbH, theydiscusswhat the withdrawal of companies from global economic interdependence means. Are we already at the turning point towards a deglobalized world?
