Economic development in the district

Where it all began

With a colorful mix of shopping streets, green spaces and historic buildings, Hanover's center also represents the "city in the green" with around 38,000 inhabitants on almost 10.76 km².

From the zoo to Calenberger Neustadt, from Mitte to the adjacent Oststadt, you can experience impressively how high-quality stores, culture, entertainment and gastronomy make Hannover's center worth living in. Georgstraße in particular, along with Luisenstraße and Bahnhofsstraße, is considered one of the most renowned promenades far beyond the borders of the Leinestadt. Hanover's old town between the Marktkirche and Steintor has a special charm with its owner-managed stores, cozy trendy pubs and diverse restaurants and cafés.
