The aim of the Social Innovation Center (SIC) is to discover non-profit business ideas and support innovative solutions for social challenges. In this way, we get economically viable and therefore sustainable concepts off the ground.

This year's future workshop is all about the

Inclusion and participation.

We bring together experts from this field with people interested in solving social challenges. We use the innovative method of design thinking to find answers together and awaken creativity. This technique allows us to find (unconventional) solutions to problems quickly and efficiently.

What is important here is that all solutions are based on a deep understanding of the needs of the people affected by the problem.

In the workshop, we will therefore hold in-depth discussions with experts and those affected in the field of inclusion and participation in order to better understand the challenges they face. Based on this understanding, we will develop new solutions for the problems identified in the interviews. Together with the experts and those affected, we will subject our ideas to an initial test of practicability and cost-effectiveness.

In the digital workshop, participants learn about the innovative problem-solving method of Entrepreneurial Design Thinking in theory and practice under the guidance of Prof. Gunnar Spellmeyer. The participants are made up of freelancers, private individuals, participants from business or institutions and students.

It is planned that experts from different areas of work in the field of inclusion will be available for interviews. These include, for example, employees from the areas of inclusive living, work and leisure, but also parents of children with disabilities, affected trainees and employees of the Employment Agency from the area of career entry and participation. The experts and the exact topics that can be worked on will be presented at the digital preparatory meeting.

Procedure

1 Exploration:

Experts and those affected in the field of inclusion and participation will bring current challenges from their everyday lives. Participants will have the opportunity to ask the experts in-depth questions about the topics.

2 Concretization of the problem:

After this immersion in the topic, the problems to be solved are concretized once again in group work.

3 Idea phase:

Possible solutions are then developed using various creativity techniques. Feedback from the experts concerned is also incorporated in this phase. In design thinking, this close collaboration is also known as co-creation.

4 Prototype + business model:

Furthermore, initial prototypes are created to test the solution and a business model is developed.

5 Final presentation:

The results are presented to a jury at the end.

Participation in the workshop is open to anyone who wants to engage intensively with the topic of "social innovation" and actively shape the future. The professional background is irrelevant: the decisive factor is the desire and willingness to get actively involved in a team.

Prerequisites for participation are:

  • Attendance for all three workshop days - as well as for the preparation date on December 14, 2021
  • Technical requirements for participating in an interactive video conference, including the presence of a camera and microphone and the use of browser-based software (Zoom, Mural, ...)

Regardless of whether you work in business, administration or one of the creative industries. Whether you have already come into contact with the issue around which the workshop revolves or the topic is completely new to you:

You are very welcome!
