Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plans training center in the science park

Hanover, June 2, 2021 - Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) is planning to consolidate all training activities in a new building in the Marienwerder Science Park. The planned building will have a highly flexible structure and equipment to create a motivating working environment and a positive learning atmosphere for future trainees. Laboratories, workshop areas, offices and training rooms are planned for an area of more than 8,000 m².
As part of an architectural competition, the jury selected the design by MOSAIK architekten from Hanover on May 28, 2021. The high-caliber jury was made up of representatives from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Volkswagen Immobilien, the City of Hanover and renowned architects.
Jury member Nassia Zdravkova, Head of Human Resources at VWN Germany, is very pleased about "this unique opportunity for VWN to build a new training center" and sees it as a further commitment of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand to the Hanover site. Zdravkova adds: "The transformation at the Hanover plant is progressing and the ID. BUZZ casts its shadow ahead. Against this background, some training facilities have already had to be relocated from the plant. With the new building in the Marienwerder Science Park, all of VWN's training activities will be brought together under one roof in the immediate vicinity of the VWN plant in Stöcken. With the open concept of the new building and the flexible design of the rooms, we are also creating the opportunity to use them for a wide range of events that go far beyond the topic of training."
Thomas Vielhaber, city planning officer for the state capital of Hanover, was also on the jury and emphasized the special situation of the Marienwerder Science Park: "It is important for the city to express the fact that it is all about innovation and creativity through good architecture on the outside. The winning design fits very well into the context."
Every year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers 135 apprenticeships in a total of ten different professions and five dual study programs at the Hanover site. The ten apprenticeships include future-oriented professions such as automotive mechatronics technician for system and high-voltage technology or IT specialist specializing in application development. More than 500 young people are currently being trained at the VWN site. The next training year begins on September 1, 2021. The application period for training places in 2022 starts on August 1, 2021.
On behalf of VWN, Volkswagen Immobilien (VWI) will acquire the municipal property of almost 10,000 square meters on the corner of Hollerithallee and Garbsener Landstraße in the Marienwerder Science and Technology Park (WTH) and build the new training center there.
