Teams from Robotics City Hannover once again internationally successful
What a journey, what a success. The team from the Roberta Regional Center sponsored by the Hannover Region has once again brought home a robotics world championship title. As in 2019 and last year, students from the RegioZentrum were able to impress in the "Rescue Maze Simulation" category.
Here, the robot must autonomously navigate a maze, search for letters and color codes on the walls and find its way back to its starting position at the end of the run. Nobody managed this better than the team of Vincent Michalski, Gunnar Wild and Lennard Lessig.
This year, the world championship was once again held as an in-person event, with participants led by project manager Ina May traveling to Bangkok at the beginning of July. An international field of participants from 45 nations and 400 teams traveled to Bangkok to take part in various challenges and competitions.
The aim: to find out which nation can show the best performance in which areas. In the Rescue Maze category, 17 teams from 17 nations took part, including teams from Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Egypt, Australia and Germany, represented by the trio from the Hanover region. After a total of eight races, it was clear that the title would once again go to Hanover.
In addition to the world championship title, there is also a European championship title to celebrate this year. In Guimaraes, Portugal, the "i-bots", the robotics team from the Robarta RegioZentrum Hannover, won the European Championship title in the newly created Soccer Open 2v2 category.
In this competition, two soccer robots per team compete against each other and play soccer autonomously. In most cases, the balls and goals are recognized visually via camera systems. The robots are also able to shoot and dribble balls. All game decisions are made without human intervention after the robot is started.
