Our event addresses such questions - we look behind the curtain of public discussion and work out the practical relevance of the topic for your company! And how you can deal with it!

Diversity in society and in companies is nothing new in itself

You already know this. We humans are different, and your workforce is certainly also very diverse. They have different strengths, weaknesses, personal backgrounds, capacities, skills and values. But we've always had them.

Fewer skilled workers available

The main thing that has changed dramatically is the number of people available to fill your vacancies. While companies used to receive a large, colorful bouquet of applications when filling vacancies and picked out the flower they found most beautiful, the situation has changed.

Decision shifts to applicants

Now it is the employees, with their different strengths, weaknesses, backgrounds and values, who decide who they want to work for. The perspective has fundamentally shifted - companies need to focus more on people. But how and at what points do applicants decide to work for your company and stay?

What can companies do?

If you want to actively influence this decision-making process in order to secure skilled workers, then you need to take action and embrace diversity! What's more, you need to create the basis for diversity in your company.

The workshops in detail - registration links in the workshop descriptions

Workshop 1 - Baby boomers leaving - who's coming, what's staying?

Who turned the clock? Is it really that late already?

Unfortunately, yes! Because it's time to go... at least for 12.9 million workers who will have reached retirement age by 2036(as of 2021). The retirement of the baby boomers leaves a gap, and not just in terms of personnel. Years of success-critical and company-specific knowledge built up in the minds of employees are often lost when they leave.

In our workshop "Baby boomers leaving - who's coming, what's staying?" we look at the question of how the exchange of knowledge between generations can be ensured and mutual appreciation promoted. Using a helpful method, you will learn to adopt different perspectives and derive recommendations for action in small groups.

Speakers: Dr. Mahzad Peschke (Hannover Region), regioLab - Network for Continuing Education Hannover Region

Workshop 2: Cultural diversity as a success factor for companies

Employing foreign skilled workers can be a strategy to cover personnel requirements in the long term and counteract the shortage of skilled workers.

In this workshop, participants are sensitized to the advantages and opportunities of intercultural teams.

In addition, the company's own welcoming culture is reflected upon and possible measures are developed.

Speaker: Yulyane Korkmaz (RKW Nord GmbH)

Workshop 3 - How to reconcile?

Create framework conditions to activate unused skilled labor potential!

In times of an increasing shortage of skilled workers, it is important to activate unused skilled worker potential on the labor market. Women with children, some of whom take many years out of the workforce and then prefer to work part-time, are a key factor here.

This often goes hand in hand with a stagnation in professional development, and it is not uncommon for women not to return to their profession because they no longer feel confident in the job.

However, companies can work to attract more female specialists and create incentives so that parental leave is shorter, part-time work is less frequent and sick days are reduced. New approaches are breaking down old role models so that care work and paid work are better shared between partners - for a sustainable and balanced development of skilled workers in the company.

But what measures are there to reconcile work and family life and which ones make sense?

This workshop provides impulses for more family orientation in the company, which can also be implemented and are feasible for SMEs.

Speaker: Franziska Helms, systemic and business coach (certified)

Workshop 4: Should I stay or should I go now?

Managing diversity as a solution to the underrepresentation of young women in STEM careers with equal opportunities

The workshop invites HR managers and interested parties as well as coordinators of projects to recruit women in STEM as well as employees from staff representatives and equality networks (in the university context) to a joint exchange.

At the beginning, Frederike Krause will provide an introduction to the content. The workshop is intended to encourage people to engage more actively with the topics of managing diversity in the course of stereotype-free career guidance in cooperation with colleges/universities and the compatibility of career, family and leisure time, and to help formulate further joint strategies for action.

The aims of this workshop are

  • Discussion about barriers and the underrepresentation of young women in STEM careers and solutions for tapping into labor force potential in the face of accelerated change in work
  • Approaches to the further development of the conception of best practice projects and programs in the context of managing diversity in the Hannover Region
  • Getting to know each other and exchanging ideas with other experts about projects in companies, colleges and universities

Speaker: Friederike Krause, Institute for Vocational Education and Adult Education, Leibniz Universität Hannover
