Foundation story April 2021 - HERZ-BLATT Design
With customization as standard to the "Bambi" of the wedding industry
A wide variety of materials and accessories are used to create a unique, fascinating combination for each pair. And she has now been recognized for exactly that. In spring 2021, she received the "Wedding Award Germany" in the "Overall Stationery Concept" category, which is considered the "Bambi of the wedding industry".
Melina, what makes your wedding outfit so different?
I learned my profession from the ground up. First at a technical college for design, then I trained as a digital and print media designer - and completed a bachelor's and master's degree in graphic design. I base my work on trend research: I deliver sophisticated designs, printed on high-quality fine papers, refined using various techniques or elaborately finished by hand. My designs are more understated than romantic, more purist than playful. Maybe that's why I won the prize.
How did the idea for HERZ-BLATT come about?
A friend asked me to design her wedding invitation years ago and I was happy to do it. Nothing came of the wedding, but she was allowed to put the card online. This resulted in the first small orders. I wrote the business plan for HERZ-BLATT in 2015 during my parental leave, submitted it to hannoverimpuls and won the drei|v competition, which hannoverimpuls awarded together with the kre|H|tiv network Hannover and other partners. It included seminars on self-employment and participation in a mentoring program in which start-up consultants from hannoverimpuls and a mentor from the kre|H|tiv network advised and supported me.
What are you planning for the future?
In March 2020, I decided to bundle my two mainstays with classic graphics and wedding stationery under the name HERZ-BLATT Design. Many weddings were postponed last year, which I was able to make up for with corporate branding jobs. The name always stands for high-quality design. In 2021, I want to continue to be exclusive with brand commissions and weddings. I often work with wedding planners. Brides and grooms appreciate the quality and are prepared to spend a little more.
What tips do you have for other founders?
I can only recommend everyone to study business administration. At the beginning, I thought that I wouldn't need it for my apprenticeship. Far from it. Today, I use the tools that are offered to me. And most importantly: a good tax advisor who thinks along with you and is also familiar with topics such as the artists' social security fund.
How did hannoverimpuls support you in your work?
I learned a lot through seminars and mentoring and, above all, expanded my network. This led to the first style shoot, for example. I can only recommend everyone to take advantage of the business development services. It really helps to exchange ideas with like-minded people.
