Founding story February 2022 - Ombelle

Cécile Morice grew up by the Atlantic and still loves the rugged beauty of the Breton coast. Born in France, she now lives in Hanover, but she captures the scent of her homeland for others with her high-quality natural cosmetics - and sells them under her own label "Ombelle". She develops and produces her creams, lip balms and soaps according to her own recipes in her laboratory in Hanover-Linden.

Cécile, tell us your dream!

Even as a little girl, I discovered my love of cosmetics and played a lot with my mother's creams. This game developed into a passion that I later turned into my profession. After training as a state-certified beautician and gaining over 15 years of experience in the natural cosmetics industry, I turned my dream into reality and founded my own company, Ombelle.

Where does the name come from?

Ombelle stands for the parasol-shaped flowers of the Agapanthus, which are common in Brittany and have the beautiful name "Fleur d'Amour" in German. Like a parasol, my products are designed to protect and naturally care for the skin. From the very beginning, my aim with Ombelle was to have as little impact on the environment as possible and to achieve as many positive effects as possible for the skin. And all this with a pinch of lightness, charm and glamor.

What is special about your products?

One special feature is the fragrance: the natural perfume used comes from the south of France and is 100% natural. The final mixture for the individual products, which smell like a summer's day in France, is only created on site in Hanover. There is also blossom wax, which not only smells good but also cares for the skin. My products are based on African shea or kpangnan butter and do not require water. There are no emulsifiers, stabilizers, fillers, synthetic preservatives or anything else, so that the skin is not stressed and can absorb the valuable ingredients undiluted.

The ingredients themselves come from controlled organic cultivation and/or fair trade projects and are ECOCERT or COSMOS certified. I follow the entire supply chain and avoid long transportation routes. All packaging materials are recyclable. Glass jars and metal lids are made in France. They arrive in Hanover packaged in paper and cardboard and are shipped in the same way. The walnut spatula supplied comes from Germany and is untreated. It is made by hand by people with disabilities in a Berlin workshop:

Each spatula is unique, which the makers are very proud of!

What tips do you have for other founders?

If you have a dream, you should hold on to it and not be put off. You know what you can do. And for the things you can't do, get help. Asking questions and getting opinions is important. This is the only way to get a feel for whether the product will be well received on the market.

Cécile Morice on the cooperation with hannoverimpuls:

I am glad that I have hannoverimpuls at my side. I always get valuable tips and information here. Through the network, I was also part of the pop-up store "Fashion Born in Hannover" from kreHtiv Netzwerk e.V. This helps to make my products even better known.

Martina Reuschel, Project Manager Start-up and Entrepreneurship - Project Gründerinnen-Consult at hannoverimpuls, about Cécile Morice:

A well thought-out concept and a good example of how motivation plays a major role. Cécile Morice has developed the organic care products herself out of conviction and has put all her know-how into their effectiveness and sustainability. This is authentic and creates added value for people and nature.
