Key economic figures

Gross domestic product and gross value added are among the key indicators used to illustrate productivity and value added and thus describe the prosperity and competitiveness of a region.

The national accounts describe in quantitative terms the economic activity in a country or region within a certain period of time.

Gross domestic product

  • The gross domestic product per inhabitant is considered the most important indicator of a region's prosperity and, at just under 51,700 euros, is significantly higher in the Hannover Region than the state (42,100 euros) and national average (46,300 euros)*.
  • Gross domestic product per employee is the most important indicator of labor productivity . At approx. 86,150 euros, the Hannover Region is slightly above the national average. *

Gross value added

Gross value added comprises the added value created by all goods and services produced. At just under 46,800 euros, the Hannover Region is well above the state (38,100 euros) and national average (41,900 euros), in line with the number of inhabitants*.* This underlines the high competitiveness of the Hannover Region .

The gross value added in the Hannover Region differs visibly from the state and national distribution in its allocation to the economic sectors. In the Hannover Region, an extraordinarily high level of value added is generated in the public sector and in the "trade, transport and storage, hospitality, information and communication" sectors, while less is generated in the manufacturing sector.
