In 2024, around 543,000 people were employed in the Hannover Region and subject to social insurance contributions.
A look at selected employee characteristics reveals differentiated developments in terms of gender, scope of employment, education, nationality and age.
The following developments in the employee structure can be observed in 2024 (reporting date 30.06.)
- The proportion of female employees (46.1%) continues to decrease slightly (2014/16: 46.9%).
- The proportion of employees with an academic qualification (21.5 %) is significantly higher than in Lower Saxony and Germany and continues to rise.
- The proportion of foreign employees is steadily increasing and currently stands at 15.5% (2019: 11.7%).
- The proportion of full-time employees subject to social security contributions continues to fall, while the proportion of part-time employees is rising slightly.
- The proportion of employees aged 55 and over who are subject to social insurance contributions rose to 24.6%, which is slightly higher than the national average.
- An increasing number of employees subject to social security contributions are in marginal part-time employment (9.4%).
